I struggle when it comes to finding the answers about nutrition, and especially when it comes to nutrition and cancer. Our co-found and fellow four time cancer survivor, Dayna, has done extensive research on nutrition and credits it to helping her survive a stage four diagnosis. Therefore, I am excited to announce that Hoag will be sponsoring a seminar on nutrition myths and cancer. When someone we love is given a cancer diagnosis, many of us will not stray from the Western techniques of chemotherapy and radiation. However, some people seek out alternative therapies and treatments. I think that patients and their families benefit when the best of both worlds come together to promote healing. I was surprised and excited that Hoag is now offering Reiki classes for their patients and their families. This is a Japanese technique that reduces stress and promotes relaxation and healing. Loosely translated Reiki Continue reading →
It had been awhile since I got out on my bike, so we decided to take a short easy ride through Huntington Beach. We only had a few hours before it was supposed to rain, so we set out on a beautiful brisk Sunday morning. We road near the pier, checking out the sites and trying not to hit oblivious tourists, dog walkers, and random weird stuff on the path. We were enjoying ourselves and the day and happened upon a cyclist with an interesting issue. He was Continue reading →
One of the most substantial issues that my mom has had to deal with after her mastectomy was the loss of strength in her arm. Since mastectomies are radical surgeries that take out the surrounding tissue and any other structure that maybe compromised, many patients are left with stiffness, loss of strength, and loss of mobility. My mom takes senior circuit training classes to help her rebuild her muscles (which my niece affectionately refers to as geezersize), but if that isn't for you, you might Continue reading →

Breast cancer scares me more than anything else I have come across. It has no boundaries and it attacks without consideration of socio-economic status, race, or lifestyle. The two most significant risks for developing breast cancer are being a woman and getting older. The part that gets me the most, is that cancer can develop even if you eat well and exercise and take care of yourself. Take my high school friend, Christine. She has dedicated herself to living a clean lifestyle with health and Continue reading →

A few months ago I went to a three session training session on mindfulness at Fullerton College. This is the new mindset for striving for balance in work, relationships, and emotional/physical health. I really enjoyed the series and what I can take from it for my students and for my survivor friends. As part of the Komen Education series, they are offering a seminar called Put Yourself in the Driver's Seat: Healthy Eating, Exercise, and Mindfulness at the Center for Cancer and Prevention and Treatment at Continue reading →
New Sponsor for 2017 We are proud to announce the Maglia Rosa bra has a new sponsor for 2017, The Unlikely Cyclist. One of our Co-Founders has been riding with The Unlikely Cyclist for many years now. They are doing a great job of getting new cyclists off the couch and on the road. Lisa owns and oporates this shop with a strong leaning towards supporting women in cycling. If you have riden in one of the testosorone packs in OC and felt out of Continue reading →
Riding your first metric century is a physical and psychological challenge. Once you have conquered your first one, you will feel proud of the accomplishment. In order to prepare for a metric, you will need to spend time on your bike getting physically fit and psychologically comfortable with the distance. While some of my teammates and Paul have ridden many centuries, I have only ridden metric centuries. But the important part is to train. My first one was a VERY BIG DEAL to me. I had planned to do Continue reading →

The Boob Ride can get all of our riders through the base, but ONLY if you are registered by 4/7/17, two weeks before the event on 4/22/17. We must submit a list of all riders Continue reading →

When we first started The Boob Ride, I had no idea how much it would grow or how many amazing people would want to be involved in it. Sometimes I am taken aback at how successful it has become, which is a direct result of all the hard work from my co-founders, board members, volunteers, friends, and my family. One of the nonprofit organizations that I really felt a connection to is the UK based breast cancer nonprofit called CoppaFeel!. The organization was started by Kris Continue reading →

Co-Authored by two of the co-founders, Paul and Jennifer. As a co-founder of FUN 4 GOOD (the non-profit that produces The Boob Ride), I handle branding as a consultant all the time. Many people ask me about the pros/cons of such a colorful name as “The Boob Ride”. Evolution We started out with a personal passion to raise funds for breast cancer treatment/research with a fun bike ride. It was intimate, not a business effort that was a very grass root event. All the riders supported the Continue reading →
We had the pleasure of joining the Bicycle Club of Irvine for their meeting tonight to present to them the Most Supportive Bra award (affectionately known as “Big Blue”) for their participation in the OC Boob Ride in April. It was a great meeting filled with interesting bike tech and bike safety topics.
We, at the Boob Ride, are fortunate to have so many people contribute to our ride and our cause, whether it be through riding, volunteering, or networking. One such Boob Rider is Pete Gerrard, from the Irvine Cycling Examiner and Irvine Bicycles. Not only has Peter ridden the ride for several years, but his shop has also sponsored the “Most Inspirational” bra award in 2016 and he continues to help us promote the ride through several articles. Peter gets us. He knows that The Boob Ride Continue reading →
The Boob Ride wishes our good friend Sue all the best with the 8th Annual Save the Ta-Ta’s Tournament this Saturday at the Old General Golf Course! The tournament is sold out, but you can still go and enjoy the festivities or volunteer.
While our focus has traditionally been on cancer and cycling, The Boob Ride is interested in general health (and cycling). We know that saddles, saddle-soreness, and urology topics have come up in certain cycling circles as well. Therefore, we’ve decided to share this study with you. We’ve recently been contacted by the researchers at the University of California, San Francisco, Department of Urology to see if our Boob Riders can help them with some important research in men and women’s sexual wellness and urologic conditions. The impact of Continue reading →

After seven long years, the King of the Mountain award has had a little work done. It wasn’t just a little nip here or tuck there, it was a total overhaul! Our dedicated Boob Rider and reigning King of the Mountain champion, Dickie Fernández, braved the lingerie section at his local Walmart to procure two new bras for our CA and PA awards. With the help of another Boob Rider, Massiel Pérez and her mom, they hand-stitched the new polka-dot material onto Dickies’ bras. The new and improved Continue reading →
It is not to late to sign-up for The Boob Ride. We have submitted our list to Camp Pendleton for cyclists to ride through the base. However, there are a few options still available. A New Award for 2016 After many long hours and a glue gun burn or two, we would like to present the newest award – The Diamond Bra! This award is for the Most Inspirational rider or participant, and it honors The Boob Ride’s good friend and adviser, Commander Kevin Childre. Commander Childre was not only a Boob Rider, but his advice and willingness to help got The Boob Ride off the ground in San Diego. Kevin had started his own charity ride called Continue reading →
Welcome our new sponsor of The Best Young Rider, O-Tus. This sponsorship is a great tie-in with something new (a new way to listen to music while you ride) and all the new riders on the event. O-Tus brings a really cool solution to listening to your favorite tunes while riding, but still being able to hear everything around you. Earbuds can be hazardous, especially in a pack with other riders communicating to each other. O-Tus velcros on your helmet and aims music at your Continue reading →

The Boob Ride welcomes our newest sponsor for 2016, Rev Endurance Sports in San Marcos, CA! NO last minute or onsite registrations for the 2016 rides!! The Boob Ride Orange County and The Boob Ride San Diego are being forced to close registration 2 weeks before the event. This means registration for both rides will close on Friday April 1st (4/1/16) and we are not foolin’. Camp Pendleton has closed the base to cyclists, unless they are pre-authorized to ride on the base. The base is working with us to get our entire list cleared for access to the base, but we Continue reading →
